Eid festivities at Katara draw huge crowds

The Eid al-Fitr festivities at Katara – the Cultural Village concluded on Friday, attracting a huge crowd to the shows, fireworks display, and several fun-filled activities.

The hot weather failed to dampen the spirit of festival-goers, mostly families and children, who enjoyed outdoor activities and attractions, according to a statement from Katara.

Salem al-Merri, head of Public Relations Department at Katara, explained that he was pleased with the large turnout of residents and visitors.

“This reflects the success of the Eid al-Fitr programme. We are proud to be a good spot for people during the festival, thanks to our team who worked hard for weeks to provide the best for our visitors, as always,” al-Merri added. “This was a collective effort and hard work.”

The Al Thuraya Planetarium also gathered many visitors who had the opportunity to watch the film, “Age of Space Dawn.” It reflected “the space race” during the Cold War, the first landing of man on the moon, and space expeditions in an interesting way.

It is learnt that many families preferred going to Katara this Eid to spend the holidays and witness the festivities, including a visit to the Al Thuraya Planetarium.

“It was my first time in this one-of-its-kind facility and I was really amazed,” said a visitor, adding that an array of free entertainment and educational shows also wowed him and his children. He also lauded Katara for “a well-organised festival”.

Apart from the activities and cultural performances, other festival-goers also enjoyed watching the parade and fireworks display in the evening.

Katara announced that the “The Cake Vendor” play will continue at the Katara Drama Hall until June 9 for free.
