Doha, Qatar: Neeraj Chopra, the reigning Olympic, world, and Asian Games javelin champion, will make his highly anticipated return to the Seashore Group Doha Meeting on Friday, May 10, joining former world champion Anderson Peters (GRN) and Olympic and world medalist Jakub Vadlejch (CZE).
Chopra, holding India’s national record with a stellar performance of 89.94m, is a beacon of inspiration for athletes in his country. His remarkable journey includes becoming the first Indian track and field athlete to set a world record (under-20) and winning the country's first-ever Olympic gold medal in track and field at the Tokyo Games.
At the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Chopra made history once again by securing India’s first gold medal in the event. His dominance was evident in the 2023 Wanda Diamond League opener in Doha, where he clinched victory ahead of Vadlejch and Peters.
The Seashore Group Doha Meeting promises another showcase of top-tier javelin talent. Alongside Chopra, Peters, and Vadlejch, the event will feature European champion Julian Weber (GER), World Championships finalist Oliver Helander (FIN), and a host of other elite throwers.
Chopra’s aspirations for the season include defending his Olympic title and breaking the 90m barrier. The Doha Meeting, renowned for its excellent conditions and vibrant atmosphere, provides an ideal platform for him to kickstart his campaign.
As India's sporting ambassador, Chopra expresses gratitude for the overwhelming support he receives globally, especially from Indians in Qatar. He aims to reciprocate their faith with a stellar performance.
