The Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center (QTTSC) at Qatar University’s College of Engineering (QU-CENG) has hosted a defensive driver training programme for professional drivers of Qatar University.
The programme was sponsored by Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) and conducted in collaboration with Engineering Solutions, a local technology provider specialised in developing driving simulators and training software.
QTTSC director Prof Faris Tarlochan said: “This training programme fits within our core strategy to develop a road safety culture and improve driving standards, in collaboration with our key partners. QTTSC aims, through its many projects, to draw attention to the urgent need for safer roads for all, and to take the necessary measures and make significant and long-term contributions to road safety.”
QTTSC assistant professor Dr Wael Alhajyaseen noted that the course aims to enhance and develop the skills of drivers to help them avoid traffic crashes and deal with various risks on roads including the mistakes of other drivers.
Raffat Zreik, operations manager at Engineering Solutions said: “This programme was delivered by an internationally-accredited defensive driving instructor and utilised an advanced driving simulator. It aimed to reduce the risk of collision and avoid dangerous situations, despite adverse conditions or the mistakes of others.”
