Customs thwart attempt to smuggle shabu at Hamad Airport

Doha: The Customs Department of Hamad International Airport foiled an attempt to smuggle shabu into the country.

Shabu/Shabo is a local term for illegal methamphetamine drug which is prevalent in some parts of Asia. 

In a video and photos shared by Customs, it said that the 4.70kg drug was hidden inside the passenger's bag. "The official inspected the passenger’s bag and found 4.70 kg of shabo. When the seizing operation has been completed, the legal procedures and seizure report have been made and the materials given to the competent authorities," stated Qatar Customs.  

The authorities have been issuing continuous warnings against carrying illegal substances into the country.

Customs officers are provided with all means of support including the latest devices and continuous training to read the body language of passengers and be aware of the latest methods followed by smugglers.
