Doha: Hamad Port Customs foiled an attempt to smuggle tobacco hidden inside a building material shipment.
The Maritime Customs Administration thwarted the smuggling attempt of 810KG prohibited tobacco into the country.
The department in a tweet stated, "Hamad port customs at maritime customs administration has foiled a smuggling of 810 kg of prohibited tobacco which was professionally hidden inside a shipment for cutting tiles (building materials)."
The Customs authority has been issuing continuous warnings against carrying illegal substances into the country.
Customs officers are provided with all means of support including the latest devices and continuous training to read the body language of passengers and to be aware of the latest methods followed by smugglers.
