The Court of Appeal at Lusail yesterday held hearing of several cases and took appropriate decisions in this regard.
The hearing was held remotely through a virtual communication system that was provided in cooperation with the Supreme Judicial Council and the Ministry of Interior.
The session was headed by Judge Ali bin Khamis Al Sulaiti, Vice-President of the Court of Appeal, and after the session he appreciated this new experience.
He said that this system is the outcome of a joint effort between the Supreme Council of the Judiciary and the Ministry of the Interior. The system has helped in completing procedures and achieving the work, despite social distancing as the accused remains in  detention while the judges attended the sessions.
Al Sulaiti said that during the session today (yesterday), the arrested defendants were interviewed in a number of security departments and decisions were taken against them.
For his part, Abd al Rahman al Muhannadi, the first prosecutor, said that the remote litigation technology is a successful step, as it saves a lot of time and effort.
The new system has been introduced to the Public Prosecution, and successful communication with various security departments has already taken place, indicating that it means from the next session that the Prosecutor will not have to attend the courtroom but will remain in his office and will communicate with him and the court and the accused via video.
Brigadier Saif Muhammad Al Khiyaren, Director of the Law Enforcement Department at the Ministry of the Interior, praised the successful hearings of the defendants’ statements remotely. He added that nine files were considered without any technical obstacles in the system.
Jamal Al Neama, the lawyer who was present in the session defending one of the accused, described this session remotely as an advanced step.
