Conditions ق€˜favourableق€™ again for scattered rain

Light to moderate rain is expected in the country over the coming few days and the chances of showers may improve at the start of next week, the Qatar Met department has said.

Today, strong winds have been forecast at times and some places may receive thundershowers by the evening. Offshore areas, too, are likely to see windy conditions and high seas by late in the night.

The weather office has also said it will also continue to be warm today.

In a report yesterday, the Met department said intermittent cloud cover is expected in the country this week, and there are chances of scattered rain from this evening until tomorrow. Then, the possibility of rain is likely to weaken by daytime on Wednesday, with the conditions again expected to become favourable for scattered rain on Thursday and Friday, the department has said.

In general, scattered rain has been forecast during this period and it will be light to moderate in intensity. There is also a chance of “short-lived thundery cells” over some areas.

The report further points out that preliminary forecasts show better chances of rain during the beginning of next week.

The Met department has also tweeted that the spell of rising temperatures will continue in the country today, with the maximum expected to reach the mid-30C levels in most areas. There is also a chance of blowing dust occasionally along with low visibility (3km or lower) in open areas.

The weather office had earlier forecast that there would be a “noticeable rise” in temperatures - to 3-6C above normal – in Qatar on Sunday and Monday.

Meanwhile, today’s detailed forecast says hazy to misty conditions will prevail in the early hours of the day. This will be followed by dusty conditions occasionally and it will also get cloudy. There is a possibility of scattered rain today, which may be thundery at times.

Offshore, hazy to misty conditions are expected at first, and it may also be partly cloudy today. There is a chance of light rain in some areas.

The wind speed may go up to 23 knots in some inshore areas during the day and become northwesterly by the evening. In offshore areas, it may reach a high of 24 knots by late tonight, with the sea level rising to 8ft.

A minimum temperature of 19C is likely in Al Khor and Abu Samra today, while in Doha it will be 20C. The maximum, on the other hand, will range from 28C in Ruwais to 33C in Abu Samra.

Yesterday, a minimum temperature of 18C was recorded in Sheehaniya and Abu Samra and 21C in the Doha airport area. The maximum was 34C in Sheehaniya and 33C in Turayna, Batna and Karana.

The Met department has called upon people to follow latest updates through its official social media accounts.
