Outshining 333 competing events from 24 countries, the spectacular Opening Ceremony of the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East and Arab world received acclaim from the judges of the BeaWorld Festival, an awards ceremony acknowledging outstanding creative talents in the realms of sports and events.
The Qatar 2022 Opening Ceremony, developed by Balich Wonder Studio, a leading creator of live entertainment experiences within the Banijay Media and Entertainment powerhouse, shared the spotlight with Al Nehem the WhaleShark - The Lusail Icon, which secured the Best Creative Installation award. Both events celebrated Qatar and the essence of sports through contemporary and innovative narratives.
Broadcasted in over 170 countries, the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony, a memorable 30-minute spectacle, etched its place in football history and brought Qatar's vision of unifying the world to vibrant life. Spearheaded by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy and the Qatar 2022 LLC, the iconic Opening Ceremony was conceptualized and produced by Balich Wonder Studio, with the esteemed Qatari artist Ahmed Al-Baker serving as co-artistic director.
Simultaneously, the WhaleShark - The Lusail Icon earned recognition as the Best Creative Installation, acknowledging creator Marco Balich's use of Qatar 2022 as a backdrop to symbolize Qatar's commitment to preserving its natural environment. Following its viral success on social media, captivating millions worldwide, the WhaleShark has evolved into a permanent symbol of sustainability and a new landmark for the country.
