Aster spreading awareness about infection prevention

Aster DM Healthcare is observing the International Infection Prevention Week and Global Hand Hygiene Day.

Week-long events held to mark the occasion are scheduled to conclude tomorrow at Aster Hospital and Aster medical centres to enhance patient safety and spread awareness among healthcare professionals, according to a press statement.

Studies have shown that although compliance rates are improving, a significant percentage of healthcare workers fail to consistently wash their hands between patients. Most studies have stressed that the basic cause of any disease is infection spread through hands.

“At Aster, the infection prevention and control programme is driven by guidelines, recommendations and regulations governing practice, issued by Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health and other groups that are stakeholders in patient and healthcare worker safety,” the statement noted.

Every healthcare worker – doctors, nurses, paramedics, housekeeping, administrators etc – has an equal role in infection prevention and control activity.

Aster DM Healthcare is observing International Infection Prevention Week the Global Hand Hygiene Day as a “continuous commitment towards infection prevention and control for the well-being of patients and healthcare workers”, the statement adds.
