Public Works Authority (Ashghal) yesterday announced the completion of upgrading works of Tihama and Al Mansour streets in Old Airport Area (Area 45).
The works were part of a series of projects being implemented by Ashghal to improve road network across Qatar. They consisted of 1.4km of road works, upgrading of infrastructure networks and lighting systems and the development of pedestrian paths.
While announcing the completion, engineer Saoud al-Tamimi, manager, Roads Projects Department, said Ashghal has been active for the past three years in implementing several projects in the area.
“The projects are aimed at upgrading the streets and relieving the traffic congestion in the area,” he said, adding that the development works assume significance as Tihama and Al Mansour streets are connected to some of the most vital roads as D-Ring Road and Old Airport Street.
“Besides, the two streets play an important role in facilitating access to several populous residential areas along with many commercial shops, health centres and educational institutions that are located around the area,” he said.
The project also included the construction of a roundabout on the intersection of Al Mansour Street with Al Horriya Street, development of 150 new parking bays, construction of a 1.4km long pedestrian path and upgrading of street lighting systems. The Ashghal official said the works included developing the area’s infrastructure such as developing the main drainage networks and connecting residential buildings to this network, constructing permanent stormwater, groundwater and wastewater treatment networks and protecting the underground telecommunications, potable water and electricity utility lines.
Ashghal has so far carried out the same development works at Al Amine, Al Rawdha, Al Salah Al Tabarani, Al Karana and Al Hussein Bin Ali streets and provided them with an integrated infrastructure network.
