Ashgal will open next round road in April, July

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has said the next rounds of partial opening of roads as part of the New Orbital Highway and Truck Route project will take place in April and July.

A link road between Hamad Port and Truck Route was opened as part of the vital project last Monday.

Taking place in April, the next round will involve Mesaieed Road and the Orbital Highway phase extending from the East West Corridor to Dukhan Highway through Salwa Road.

Then, a number of roads will be partially opened to traffic in July. These are the Orbital Highway phase extending from Dukhan Highway to Al Gharafa Road, the phase located between Mesaieed Road and the East West Corridor, the road linking the northern entrance of Hamad Port and the Industrial Area, the road linking Dukhan Highway and Al Mazrouah Road, and the phase extending from Dukhan Highway to the west of Al Shamal Road, near Al Khor city.

The project comprises four contracts, which are being implemented simultaneously.

Contract one includes the construction of a 45km road and four main interchanges, providing a new dual carriageway that connects Hamad Port and the Al Wakrah bypass with the other phases of the New Orbital Highway. This is in addition to building a new road linking Mesaieed Road to the East West Corridor.

Contract two includes the construction of a 48km long road with eight two-level interchanges. It is located to the north and west of Doha city, starting on Salwa Road and passing Dukhan Highway and Al Shamal Road.

As part of Contract three, a 55km road will be built and it will include five interchanges. The road stretches from the Mesaieed Industrial City Interchange up to Salwa Road, connecting Mesaieed Road 1, Al Wukair Road 1, and Al Wukair 2. The road also forms a link between the New Orbital Highway and Truck Route and the East West Corridor project.

Contract four includes the construction of a 42km road and five interchanges. The road will link Dukhan Highway and its connection with Al Shamal Road, and Al Khor Link Road.

An integrated infrastructure will also be provided through this project, including storm water drainage systems, treated water networks for irrigation, communication networks, street lighting and intelligent transport systems, Ashghal said.
