Applications sought for mega art project on Al Maha Island

Al Hosh Gallery has announced that it is receiving applications from artists wishing to participate in a new mega art project – the Promenade – for the upcoming Al Maha Island, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.

The project involves painting a 5km-long road on the island.

The gallery has issued an open call to artists from within Qatar and abroad to apply for participation in the project.

Those interested can apply until July 30 through this link: https://alhosh.net/open-call

Work on the project is expected to run from August 15 until October 15.

A number of artists will be selected to participate in the Promenade initiative.

They will be provided with the medium and tools needed to paint the road.

Their names will be also mentioned as taking part in the Promenade project on the gallery's social media platforms.

A certificate will be given at the end of the project to all artists who took part in the project.

The project comes within the framework of highlighting the aesthetic aspect of Qatar through the implementation of creative works that enhance public art projects in the country and contribute to transforming streets into tourist destinations worth visiting, the *Arrayah report states.

Located in Lusail, Al Maha Island – Qatar’s much-anticipated leisure and tourism hotspot – will open prior to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, according to reports.

The island is set to become a hotspot for Qatar's tourism – attracting more than 1.5mn visitors per year.

It is located near Place Vendome mall and linked to the mainland via a causeway.

The island includes major attraction hubs, including luxury dining experiences and world-class leisure and entertainment.

The world-class project is led by Estithmar Holding subsidiary Estithmar Ventures and IHG, in collaboration with Qatari Diar and Qatar Tourism.

Al Maha Island demonstrates the huge potential of Qatar’s tourism sector and is a manifestation of how IHG is adapting to the fast growth in hospitality and internal and external tourism in the country.
