Doha: The Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani inaugurated the seventh edition of the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX 2022) at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) today.
The opening was attended by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, and a number of Their Excellencies Sheikhs, Ministers and Chiefs of Staff from several countries, a number of ambassadors accredited to Qatar, senior officers of the Qatari Armed Forces, and experts in the maritime security and defense sector, QNA reported.
After the opening, HH the Amir toured the exhibition, during which he was briefed about the latest technologies, innovations and systems related to maritime defense, as well as various equipment and modern ships equipped with defense systems, communications, radars and other services offered by more than 200 local, regional and international companies.
Major General (Navy) Abdullah bin Hassan al-Sulaiti, Commander of the Qatari Amiri Naval Forces, said that “DIMDEX is gaining increasing importance in the world among specialists of the security and defense industry.”
During his speech at the opening of the event, he added that “there is no doubt that the possession of seaports by countries gives them a great advantage as it connects them to the world, enhances their resources and increases their economic and strategic importance. However, the nature of the complications that accompany seaports are large and intertwined and it is imperative to confront them.”
The seventh edition is being held under the theme ‘Connecting the World’s Maritime Defence and Security Community.’, and will continue until March 23, 2022 .
Brigadier General Pilot Mishaal Ibrahim Al-Nasr, the official spokesman for the Qatar Amiri Air Force, speaking to Qatar TV said that “DIMDEX 2022 is an opportunity to discuss many issues and challenges that concern decision-makers and commanders of the navy and armed forces.”
Speaking about Qatar Amiri Air Force’s pavilion at DIMDEX, Major Pilot Abdulaziz Ahmed Al-Jaber said most prominent features at the pavilion in this year’s edition is F15, also we have simulator, and visitors can take a brief overview of how to fly.
There is also a Typhoon aircraft that has recently entered service, he added.
