The recently-opened Aisha Bint Hamad Al Attiya Hospital will play an important role in supporting the healthcare sector throughout the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, officials have said.
The hospital is one of the most advanced medical facilities and has the latest technologies and equipment.
Aisha Bint Hamad Al Attiya Hospital is one of four Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) hospitals designated for urgent but non-life-threatening cases during the tournament.
Mohamed Al Jussaiman — Deputy Chief of HMC’s General Hospitals Group and Chairman of Operational Committee of Aisha Bint Hamad Al Attiyah Hospital — said the facility with all the necessary world-class medical equipment and competent staff is “highly prepared” to receive patients.
“Initially we have opened the emergency department, outpatient department and in patient area partially in support of the World Cup. We are one of the designated hospitals to serve during the World Cup and we are prepared to care for patients in something happens,” he told The Peninsula during a media tour of the hospital.
The facility is located between Al Bayt Stadium and Lusail Stadium, the two largest FIFA World Cup stadiums.
“Located between two stadiums makes it easily accessible,” said Al Jussaiman.
The hospital is now receiving patients. At present, it has started phase one of its operations and is serving people of surrounding areas.
The main building of the hospital consists of the emergency department which is divided into three parts: male, female and paediatric. The hospital will receive non-life-threatening medical cases.
“For the phase one, we are seeing male and female adults and some minor paediatric trauma cases,” said Chair of Emergency Services at Al Khor Hospital and Aisha Bint Hamad Al Attiya Hospital, Dr Jassim Mohamed. “In the first phase, we receive only walk-in patients who come by themselves, not transported by the Ambulance Service. At present we have 22 treatment beds and three station beds ready,” said Dr. Mohamed, adding that around 100 patients can be seen within one hour at the emergency department.
The hospital will continue seeing walk-in patients with non-life-threatening conditions during the World Cup too.
“Although we are not taking patients through the Ambulance Service, we are ready to receive any cases and have the capacity to stabilise the patients. In case we get a patient who needs to be transferred, first we will stabilise the patient, and transfer the patient to Al Khor Hospital, Hamad General Hospital or any other hospital depending on the need and condition,” he added.
Once fully operational, Aisha Bint Hamad Al Attiya Hospital will function with 13 comprehensive operation theatres, four operating theatres for day care procedures, 96 treatment rooms for males, and 48 treatment rooms for females.
The hospital will also have 48 obstetric rooms, 15 VIP inpatient rooms, 15 beds for on-call units, 40 paediatric rooms, 40 ICU beds for adults, and 28 beds for neonatal ICU.
The hospital also includes 64 outpatient clinics, a pharmacy, a 11-bed hemodialysis unit, a rehabilitation unit, and a clinical imaging department.
