The third Qatar-US Strategic Dialogue will start in Washington, DC, 0n Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has announced.
The event will feature a high-level session co-chaired by HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, according to a notification posted on social media by the ministry yesterday.
The dialogue will address co-operation in the areas of politics, economy, culture, education, energy, health, mediation and combating terrorism, the MoFA notification states.
The dialogue will witness the announcement of cultural, economic and educational partnerships and signing of a number of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and letters of intent related to culture, development and economy.
According to the MoFA announcement, the strategic dialogue aims to discuss ways to enhance co-operation between the two countries in various fields and develop the special bilateral relations that depend on common interests and mutual respect.
“The State of Qatar will stress during the dialogue the need to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue,” the notification adds.
The second Qatar-US Strategic Dialogue was held in Doha in January last year. HE Sheikh Mohamed had chaired the dialogue along with Pompeo, with ranking officials from the two sides attending.
At the end of the dialogue, the two countries issued a joint statement saying they discussed numerous aspects of their strong bilateral ties, including regional security and defence co-operation, education and culture, law enforcement and counterterrorism partnerships, commercial and energy co-operation, and labour issues.
Qatar and the US had highlighted the strength of the bilateral relationship and the opportunities to further deepen their co-operation to benefit both countries. The two sides also signed some MoUs and a statement of intent.
The first Qatar-US Strategic Dialogue was held in Washington, DC, in January 2018.
