An inspection campaign in Al Rayyan Municipality has resulted in the detection of 130 violations of the law prohibiting workers' housing in family residential areas.

Also, another 130 violations of the law concerned with the organisation of buildings, 14 violations of the law regulating advertisements, and four violations of the law regulating human food control were detected during the campaign.

Legal measures have been taken against all the violators, the Ministry of Municipality said in a statement on Wednesday.

This is part of intensive inspection campaigns launched by the Ministry of Municipality in co-operation with the Ministry of Interior's Search and Follow up Department, Preventive Security Department and Rescue Police (Al Fazaa). Beginning with Al Rayyan Municipality, the campaigns will cover all municipalities in the country to spot violations of municipal laws, most importantly workers' housing and the regulation of buildings.

The Ministry of Municipality said it will continue implementing the inspection campaigns along with the security authorities in various regions of the country covering all municipalities, in order to curb such violations.

The ministry also highlighted its continuous efforts to curb violations caused by the division of buildings, noting that such efforts were being intensified. In this regard, inspection tours carried out in municipalities last year resulted in the issuance of more than 1,400 violation reports in accordance with the provisions of Law No 4 of 1985 on the organisation of buildings and its amendments. These were transferred to the competent authorities for the necessary legal procedures.

The ministry has explained the steps to control violations caused by the division of villas and other residential buildings. These are as follows:

* Monitoring any violation related to the division of villas or residential real estate, or receiving a complaint in this regard, by the municipality's competent authority.

* Proving the violation by inspecting the violating property, after obtaining the permission of the Public Prosecution to enter the property (whether it is a company or a person), and it may take some time to obtain the necessary approvals from the competent authorities to enter the property.

* Issuing a seizure record of buildings (ones without a permit), as the case may be: against the owner or the tenant, in application of the provisions of Law No 4 of 1985 on the organisation of buildings and its amendments.

* Giving the violator a deadline to address the reasons for the violation, and reconcile with the municipality.

* Refer the record to the security authorities in the event of non-reconciliation.
