The second edition of the ‘Katara Murals with the Brushes of Artists’ projects has concluded at the Cultural Village Foundation.
The initiative is “a reflection of the popularity of the art form and an opportunity for artists to display their techniques and proficiency on a platform,” according to a press statement from Katara.
Artists were asked to paint and script a “meaningful form of art” through an integration of Qatar’s identity and Katara’s stories, the statement noted, adding: “Innovative artists used vivid techniques to overcome the rainy weather, thereby ensuring a spectacular mural. Regional, local and international artists participated in the event.”
The artists were allocated two platforms each. In the end, 104 monochrome walls of Katara came to life as the artists gave their final touches to the murals.
Speaking on the occasion, Katara general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti said the second edition of ‘Katara Murals’ saw the participation of 54 artists representing 16 nations. “The wide range of participants from Qatar and abroad signified the diversity of their fine arts background, reflecting the importance of this cultural and pioneering project,” he observed.
Dr al-Sulaiti stressed that ‘Katara Murals’ stemmed from the Cultural Village Foundation’s “keenness to constantly enrich the local art scene” through initiatives that contribute to the development of an authentic meeting place that unites arts and cultures under one umbrella. He said the event caught the attention of Saudi artist Mohamed al-Shamari and Emirati graffiti artists who travelled overseas especially for this project.
“I would like to extend my genuine appreciation and gratitude to all artists who participated with us. ‘Katara Murals with the Brushes of Artists’ was a wonderful opportunity for artists to exchange experiences, backgrounds and knowledge along with a dynamic interaction with Katara’s visitors,” the Katara GM added.
